New Year, New Day! The Across the Years New Year’s Party did not disappoint. Enjoy these photos by Jubilee Paige of our countdown to 2018 celebration:
Now For your update:
The ‘commanding’ lead that Misty Alessandri had in the 48-hour was cut short by a 6.5 hour break right at the end of her race. Thus allowing Canadian Dennene Huntly to catch up and overtake her for the current win. Dennene ended with 153.26 miles – her longest distance to date. Jill Hudson also made use of Misty’s break and is currently 2nd place with 148 miles. Misty finishes a current 3rd with 133.32 miles. Rebecca Yore will be one to watch today to see if she continues past 100 miles and vies for the podium.
48-hour men overnight went as was trending during the day: John Maroushek has the lead at the moment with 186.86 miles and 2nd goes to 70-year-old Jeff Hagen with 171 miles – a massive World Best Performance in the 48 hour for 70-74 age category. Previous was 157.5 miles held by Germany’s Manfred Hauser set back in 1927. John Spannuth also moved onto the podium with 160.61 miles. Still running, Carlyle Lowe is one to keep an eye on for any further podium movement.
In the 24-hour Pamela Chapman-Markle moved herself into 3rd and set a new USATF 60-64 Women’s Road Record for 24 hours with 109.17. Beating the previous record by 3 miles. The men’s podium also shifted overnight with Florian Nattero racking up 116.52 miles and giving him top spot for the men. Vlad Henzl accumulated 112.32 miles and is currently 2nd. Only a handful of starters in the 24-hour event today but will update later if any of these positions looks to be in jeopardy.
Amy Mower completed an incredible 220 miles in the 72 hour. The remainder of the women’s podium is also all but set, with Melissa Soper in 2nd at 200 miles and Karen Bonnet-Natraj 3rd with 156 miles. For the men, Scott Thompson finished with 212 miles putting him in 1st at the moment. However, a few people to watch for movement on throughout today: Sean Gravor with 129 miles thus far and almost a day to go and BJ Timoner with 118 miles and a day left on the clock.
Annabel Hepworth in the women’s 6-day is adding about 30 miles every 12 hours at the moment. Two days is a long time still left but she could challenge 400 miles depending on her motivation later in the race. Edda Bauer has made up about 2 miles on Annabel overnight and is 38 miles back at 237.24. Martina Hausmann is still 3rd with 228.85 miles.
Dave Proctor only added 13 miles overnight with a massive 10.5 hour break for a total of 373.72 current miles. He’s moving well for the first few laps after his break so we’ll keep an eye on him today to see how he progresses after that rest. Ed Ettinghausen was able to cut Dave’s lead down from 74 miles to 44 miles overnight and is at 329.62 miles. Ed also put distance on Iso Yucra who has 294.98 miles. Bill Heldenbrand still holding strong in 4th at 255 miles but Mr-never-sleeps, John Geesler, is inching a bit closer with 248.79 miles.
