Cocodona 250 Moves to Lottery Registration for 2027

Matt FeldhakeNews, Press Release

Due to the rapid growth in the race’s popularity, starting with the 2027 Cocodona 250 presented by Altra, we will be transitioning to a lottery system.

The Cocodona 250 is a truly monumental undertaking of human endurance.  Traversing a curated route, navigating some of the finest landscapes of central Arizona, linking historic towns and trails off the beaten path. The rich history of the towns linked up through little traveled ranges makes this a one-of-a-kind tour of Arizona.

From the beauty of the Sonoran desert, through canyons and pine forests this is a magical route. The accomplishment of traveling the Cocodona Trail on foot will be one of the most life changing and epic journeys of an endurance athlete’s career.

Since the inaugural running in 2021, the Cocodona community has grown exponentially. What started as exclusively a 250 mile event featuring under 200 runners has now grown into a true multi-day, multi-race festival featuring 5 distances and over 1300 runners in 2026.

HOW THE LOTTERY WORKS

The 2027 lottery is only for the 250 mile distance. Entry into all other distances will be first come first serve until sold out. Your chances of selection are based on a ticket system designed to reward past participation and volunteerism:

Anyone who desires to enter the lottery can do so and will enter with 1 ticket.

Previous Finishers – 1 additional ticket for each previous finish of any Cocodona race distance including Cocodona 250, Sedona Canyons 125, Bradshaw Brute 100, Mingus Traverse 80 & Flagstaff Crest 40 (2021 to 2026 editions) for up to 3 additional tickets – maximum of 1 per year

Core Volunteers – 1 additional ticket for 300-499 volunteer credits earned by volunteering at the previous year’s Cocodona (2 tickets for 500+ volunteer credits). Only volunteering at the 2026 Cocodona will count for the 2027 lottery.

GENDER BALANCE

We are implementing a gender model to increase female representation on the course. Lottery odds will be adjusted to add 7% to the pool of female lottery applicants (up to a 50/50 ceiling).

For example, if 30% of the lottery pool is female, 37% of the applicants pulled will be female.

Additionally, we will maintain two separate waitlists. One for male and one for female athletes to ensure a balanced field as spots open up.
