Bad Beard Events

Beautiful & Community Centered
Trail Events Around Chattanooga

In 2001, Matt Sims established the region's first competitive trail races with the River Gorge 10.2 and the Stump Jump 50K. As trail running has grown, this series—now known as Bad Beard Events—has consistently delivered rugged, beautifully managed races that support both our running community and the wild spaces we run in.

Now officially joining Aravaipa Running as a Southeast community hub, Bad Beard remains under the local leadership of Series Director Ginny Smith. From scenic 5Ks to technical 100Ks, we welcome everyone from first-time trail runners to elite athletes. Moving forward, our mission is to preserve the unique, homegrown character of these seven iconic events, elevate the overall runner experience, and continue our deep-rooted tradition of directly funding the local non-profits that protect Chattanooga's backyard.
