Final Insomniac Standings

Our Insomniac series pass and corresponding series standings concluded at the end of September with the always fun, Javelina Jangover out at the McDowell Mountain Regional Park. 2018 was the first year we offered a standings system for this series and we’re excited to be able to crown some of you speedy runners and reward you for returning for multiple Insomniac races.

Also new in 2018, we filled in some of the distance gaps that these races had meaning you no longer have to commit to either a 6 mile trail run or an 18 mile race. And yes, the idea of adding another series pass which would cover all of the 5K’s in one is on the table!

Our four series: Jitters, Vigil, Delirium, and Evolution provide each of you a platform to run at a distance that suits you best. My personal favorite is our Evolution Pass as it creates a perfect scale from a short trail race in April to an ultra marathon in September covering a great course. It’s super fun watching the progression of these 25-35 runners each season as they train their butts off to complete this series.

The series points work the same as it’s DRT Series counterpart with your top 3 race scores counting in the total and based on your finishing position compared to the winner (out of 1,000 points). Races run in different series (distances) do not combine and are scored separately. You could run all five races without a podium finish and still find your way into the top of the series standings which is what makes this so fun. The only exception to running different race distances is our Evolution Series which builds from a 9K at Sinister to the 50K distance at Jangover. Runners within the Evolution Pass are only scored within that pass and if you did not finish the 50K at Jangover, you are ineligible to win.

For those of you that qualify in the Master’s Division (40+ years old), you will win an award for the highest overall place. i.e.- If you were second overall in a series, you will be awarded with the second overall award and the first place Master’s award will go to the next Master’s runner in line.

A couple other quick things to look out for as we put a close to the summer series while finishing our Insomniac Fall Series with Punisher and Mayhem over the next few weeks. We are looking to redesign our fall series to be more of a stand-alone group of races. Our three fall races run on some really great trails and under some excellent weather so we want create a more succinct package for these three moving forward. Also, because the fall races don’t include an Ultra distance, we omit them from the series pass, creating a natural divide in the race schedule. This will also make the Javelina Jangover a true closing race to the Insomniac Series in 2019. Keep a look out for more details on this change in the coming months.

We are also exploring ways to ramp up the party a bit more in 2019, a la our Jackass Night Runs that took place last weekend. Returning in 2019 will be a couple more of those fun Full Moon Wave runs that’ll have you running under a full moon, sans headlight. It really is a unique experience that everyone should seriously try at some point in their running career!

OK, without rambling on too much more…thanks to everyone who joined us for one or more races this summer and an extra thanks to those of you that ran the series with us all summer! It’s a blast directing this series and I love that we’re able to provide a race schedule for everyone through the summer months. As always, if you notice an error or have a race missing from the Ultrasignup results, please contact me directly.
