Melia CouryPost-Race Interview

SUSAN KRAMER

Melia Coury: I’m Melia Coury here with Aravaipa Running interviewing Susan Kramer who just placed second at the 2016 Mogollon Monster, congratulations.

Susan Kramer: Thank you, thank you.

Melia: How was the run for you out there?

Susan: It was tough. It’s not a course for the faint at heart. It’s a good course if you like a challenge.

M: And this isn’t your fist time, what keeps you coming back?

S: Ah well, actually I wasn’t going to do it but I had done it last year and it was a choice I could pick and I was like well I might as well do it again.

M: Is there a part of the course that sticks out to you?

S: My favorite part of the course is Turkey Springs. I love Turkey Springs. The views coming down are just, you have to stop and take a look like, “Wow, it’s just gorgeous.”

M: Stop and smell the roses there.

S: Yes, exactly

M: Since you weren’t initially planning on doing the race at first what was your training like?

S: Well actually I was fortunate enough to meet Maragret who lives up here on the weekend. And a group of us came up probably 6 or 7 times this summer and it was really beneficial to be on the course. To be out there and train especially on Weber and down Turkey. Plus it was a nice get away. We all know how living in Phoenix is over the summer. Yep, so that was really a beneficial bonus to have her as a mentor because she knows these trails like the back of her hand. It was really cool.

M: So what do you thing is next for you after this?

S: You know I don’t have a race picked out now. I am probably going to recover and then pace at Javelina. Someone, my friend just signed up and she is looking for a pacer so I fold her I might be able to help her if I recover.

M: You’re strong you will be good.

S: I hope. I hope.
