Melia: You are getting ready for the Kendall Mountain Run tomorrow, right? Will this be your first US Sky Running race?

Emelie: I have been running the Run the Rut.

M: Congratulations on…you won that one right? And then Transvulcania and Mount Marathon.

E: Yeah last year. I’m still rehabbing from my ACL injury so this will be interesting because it is a downhill. I have been running uphill races but I’m super excited to try downhill too. I wont be able to push in the downhill.

M: Is there anything that you are most excited about the race?

E: I think it is the downhill. Like the uphill I know my knee will be fine. In the downhill it will be interesting with my mind be a bit more relaxed. And also the altitude. I’m from sea level (laughter) and I can’t hardly breath just sitting her talking to you. So, that will be so much fun.

M: Well you have gotten to explore around the Silverton area a little bit these last few weeks.

E: Yeah, I have been here for eight or seven days so I guess I have started to adapt a bit to the altitude but I don’t feel that way at all. Yeah, I have been around and it’s such a cool area.

M: Do you have a run that you have done around here?

E: Up to Island Lake that was really pretty and the pass there. And when I was running with Killian on the race up to Engineer’s Pass that was so pretty with all of the flowers fields. It’s a pretty time here now.

M: Yeah, the flowers are a bit ridiculous. You said you were not sure how your knee would hold up do you have a mantra or something that kinda pushes you through?

E: I will not push through, this is a rehab progress. I will definitely not push through. I will try to be as controlled and try to be as comfortable as possible. And if I see it will not work I will just walk. But I think it is possible.

M: You are just there to enjoy the mountain for a day.

E: Yeah exactly and to be a part of the Sky Running US scene that’s really exciting to me with all of the people and everything.

M: Is there something that kind of attracts you to Sky Running?

E: Yeah, what I like about Sky Running is that you go up and down mountains you don’t really make exact kilometers or miles or meter it can be in some other disciplines in mountain running. That’s what I like about Sky Running.

M: Yeah, just conquering the summit the distance doesn’t matter.

E: Yes. One or two or three or four the technicality doesn’t matter.

M: That’s a cool way to look at it. Is there a favorite restaurant that you have been to in Silverton that you would suggest for anyone visiting to go to?

E: I have been drinking a lot of coffee at the, what do you call it?

M: Mobias.

E: Yes! That’s kind of all I have been doing. And then I cook myself because I just like to cook myself.

M: Do you have a favorite dish?

E: Right now its Quinoa, with Tofu and Lentils and broccoli and lots of salad.

M: That sounds really good. Do you have anything else that you wanted to share today?

E: I say good luck to everyone.

M: And good luck to you. I’ll be routing for you. Hopefully you get to enjoy it and nothing hurts.
