Running With The Devil
Pure Mojave Desert running at its finest! Come join us on this PAVED and scenic course which covers rolling terrain.
Commencing at an elevation of roughly 4500 feet, runners will experience high desert vegetation to include Joshua Trees, Pinion-Juniper, Mountain Rose, Sagebrush, and a relatively lush Toiyabe National Forest not commonly associated with Las Vegas. The road twists and turns thru the canyon; a true treasure of the Spring Mountains N.R.A. enjoying temperatures ~10 degrees cooler than the Las Vegas Valley.
Still an extreme heat race, expect daytime highs ~95- 100 degrees and overnight lows ~75. On course provisions will help keep you cool!

The 50K runs along the paved Lovell Canyon Road as it twists and turns covering rolling terrain. Lovell Canyon Road is ~11 miles in length. You will run the first 26.2 miles together with the marathoners. At mile 11 marathoners and 50K runners will turn around and run 4.2 miles (out 2.1, back 2.1) along the same paved road, before returning to this same aid station. You will turn around again and return the 11 paved miles back to the finish line (Aid station "Homebase" for 50K runners). You'll then have a another out and back of 4.8 miles (out 2.4, back 2.4) to complete the 50K distance. 50K runners may have a drop bag at mile 26.2 at the "Homebase" aid station. No one climb is too long and for many reasons makes for a great first 50K, a possible PR at the distance, while offering a challenge to seasoned runners. No pacers allowed for the 50K. - Set up and Breakdown - We will need Volunteers to help set up before the race and breakdown after the race.
- Finish Line - Take runner finisher photos and hand out finisher medals.
- Aid Station Volunteers – Show up on race day and assist runners with their food, hydration and gear needs. Help identify race drop bags for runners passing through and provide that all important encouragement and excitement.
- Course Sweep – On race day we will need 2-3 runners per section of trail to run behind the last runner and clear the trail of any litter and course markings.

***MARATHON and 50K RUNNERS ARE REQUIRED TO CARRY A HYDRATION SYSTEM WITH A MINIMUM OF 24 OUNCES OF WATER***
With many different appetites for hotels, for this race I have chosen to not have a host hotel, but rather suggest a number of hotels that are most convenient to Lovell Canyon. You can book your rooms directly with the hotels. Note: there no hotels close to Lovell Canyon, so the hotels listed here are mostly in the Greater Las Vegas Valley.
Camping is available at the race venue. It is primitive and there are no facilities. For more information please search on the web under Spring Mountains N.R.A. and Lovell Canyon.
HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS AND SUITES: 6220 S. Rainbow Blvd/ Las Vegas; (702) 871-4453. This is likely the closest hotel to the race start/ finish, about 18 miles away, and conveniently located just off the I-215 Freeway. It is NOT in the middle of the Strip action, but there are plenty of restaurants nearby.
HOTELS ON THE STRIP: I suggest choosing one on the south end of the strip to be closest to Lovell Canyon. A few suggestions are:
• Mandalay Bay: (877) 632-7800
• The Luxor: (877) 386-4658
• MGM: (877) 880-0880
HOTELS OFF STRIP IN THE SOUTH VALLEY:
• The Silverton: (866) 946-4373
• South Point: (866) 791-7626
• The Orleans: (800) 675-3267
• Doubletree Club Las Vegas Airport: (702) 948-4000
• Stations Casinos (several properties throughout the valley. Try Red Rock Station Casino for true pampering approx. 32 miles to Lovell Canyon.)
This is an extreme heat race, expect daytime highs ~95- 100 degrees and overnight lows ~75.
On course provisions will help keep you cool!
Unless otherwise stated, we will provide a 75% race credit on Ultrasignup towards a future Aravaipa Running event if notified in writing to [email protected] 30 days out from the event. If notified 5 days prior to the event, a 50% race credit may be provided in case of injury or family emergency. No race credit will be issued within 4 days of the event or after the event. Registered individuals who become pregnant are eligible to receive 100% race credit and will be granted two years to use the credit before expiration.
Credits will be good for one year from date of issuance and can only be used once. If you withdraw from an event for which credits were used, you will not be reissued those credits. This reissuance policy also includes credits earned and used by volunteering. No cash refunds or transfers to another participant or event will be issued under any circumstance. No selling of entries is permitted. No refunds or credits will be provided for dropping down in race distance.
Dropping From The Race
If you decide to drop, you must do so at the timing tent and inform the Race Director. They will record your bib number and confirm your withdrawal from the race.
