Total Estimated Elevation Gain | +25,058 feet
Max Elevation | 1,754' feet

The 100 Mile kicks off with a legendary Pritchett Peaks hill climb—closed 364 days a year and open exclusively for runners on race day—so you can go steep and get high right from the start. A dark, thrilling descent gives way to a warm sunrise on the singletrack of the South Lake Trailhead. The relentless hills of the first 30 miles carry you around the back side of the lake to Falcons Nest for the turnaround, then across the iconic bridge and into a smooth, cruiser downhill to finish lap one. Rinse and repeat to earn your belt buckle!

As Lake Sonoma Shitshow Relay runners, your mission is simple: have more fun than anyone else—so much fun that 100-milers, 50-milers, and even trail marathoners remember their best moments came from running with—or encountering—you and your teammates. Don’t get it wrong: you’re still tackling the same relentless trails of Lake Sonoma. The “shitshow” part? Each relay segment varies wildly in distance and elevation, making team strategy just as crucial as your preparation. So prepare a little, run happy, run hard, and above all—don’t quit. #DeathBeforeDNF

- 100 Mile Relay (4-person teams)
- 50 Mile Relay (4-person teams)
How are the relay legs structured for the 100 Mile?
Relay legs are split into two long legs and two short legs:
- Two legs of approximately 33.8 miles
- Two legs of approximately 16.8 miles

How are the relay legs structured for the 50 Mile?

100 Mile Relay exchanges:
- Liberty Glen
- Start/Finish
- Liberty Glen (second time)
50 Mile Relay exchanges:
- Start/Finish
- *Warm Springs
- Lone Rock
How do runner exchanges work?
Each relay team shares one bib and bib belt (provided at packet pick-up).
- The first runner picks up the bib at check-in
- At each exchange, the outgoing runner hands the bib belt to the next runner
- The bib must be worn at all times while on course
Are teams responsible for transportation between exchanges?
Yes. Relay teams are responsible for transporting runners to all exchange points.
*Important: The Warm Springs exchange requires a long, slow drive on winding roads and takes significantly more time than other locations. Teams should plan to arrive early and allow extra travel time.
Do relay runners run the same course as solo runners?
Yes and no. The Sufferfest 100 Mile and Shitshow Relays use the same 50-mile loop at Lake Sonoma.
- The 100 Mile solo race completes this loop twice.
- The 50 Mile Relay completes this loop once. Whereas, the 50 Mile solo race follows a different course.
Are aid stations available for relay runners?
Yes. Relay runners have access to the same aid stations as solo runners at designated locations.
Are pacers allowed for relay runners?
Pacers are not allowed. Relay runners may not use runners outside of their registered team.
Are relay teams eligible for awards?
Yes. Relay teams are eligible for relay-specific awards only.
Who are relays best suited for?
Relays are ideal for run clubs, groups of friends, and teams looking to experience the Lake Sonoma course while sharing the workload.
