The 100-mile course begins at Lucky 7 Ranch and follows the same route as the 50-mile course toward Proctor Canyon, climbing gradually on doubletrack through open terrain before reaching the plateau. From there, runners transition onto the Grandview Trail, winding along scenic singletrack before turning back toward the rim and climbing into a striking hoodoo amphitheater with rolling elevation changes.
After reaching the top of the plateau, the course heads inland on smooth doubletrack and then follows a long, scenic stretch alongside the Sevier River across the heart of the plateau. From Coyote Hollow, runners join the iconic Thunder Mountain Trail, traversing a series of short, punchy ridges before descending steeply through one of the most photographed hoodoo sections of the course.
At a designated point along the 50-mile course, 100-mile runners will split off to continue the second half of their course. This section includes an out-and-back through forested areas with canyon and hoodoo views.
The final miles leave the forest and transition back onto ranch lands, crossing open fields and roads with a steady descent that leads all the way back to the finish at Lucky 7 Ranch. In total, the 100-mile course includes approximately 16,000 feet of climbing.

Additional Race Information
- Stay on Course: This is a closed course. Follow the marked route in the race direction. Cutting or deviating may result in time penalties and up to disqualification. If you get off course, retrace to the last known marker in order to continue.
- Trail Etiquette: The course will be shared with the public. Alert others before passing. Uphill runners/hikers have the right of way. Stay in control while descending and respect other runners.
- No Pets: Pets are not allowed on the course.
- No Littering: Discarding any waste (including organic materials like peels or toilet paper) will result in disqualification.
- Trekking Poles: Permitted.
- Respect Others: Be courteous to volunteers, staff, officers, park rangers, trail users, and fellow participants.

- Finish Times: Official finish times are based on gun time; buckles are awarded by chip time.

BOOK NOW
- The official Race Shirt is picked up at expo upon check-in, and the official race medal is awarded upon crossing the finish line.
- All finishers will receive a finisher medal. Unique finisher medals will be provided to the finishers of all distances. Special awards will be given to the top 3 overall male, female and and non-binary and top 3 male and female masters finishers for each distance as well. Unlike our Half Marathons, we do not offer age group awards for these events.
-
Ultras Overall awards are based on gun time. Here's why:
At our Ultramarathons, we offer a larger, more unique overall winner prize. Calculating awards based on gun time allows us to award these prizes in-person, instead via mail. We believe strongly in celebrating your accomplishments at the event (plus, the prizes don't ship well...)
- If you are interested in competing for a top award you will need to line up at the front at the beginning of your start window so your chip time and the gun time are the same.
- Exclusive Race merchandise will be available both at the race expo and near the finish line! When possible, we'll have race merch for sale in our online store after the race is over. Please allow time for us to add items online.
Medical Support on Course
Our medical team is provided by MedStar Solutions. For any emergency or medical question during the race, call 480-269-4126 instead of 911. This number is printed on your bibs, and we recommend programming it into your phone before race day.
MEDICAL SUPPORT RACE DAY: 480-269-4126
Medical personnel are stationed at major aid stations and along the course, with the ability to dispatch assistance as needed. Our medical teams are well versed in endurance events, our course, our participants, and event-specific medical care.
Mobile medical vehicles will also be operating on course and will check in at both staffed and unstaffed aid stations.
If you arrive at an aid station without medical personnel and need help, notify aid station staff so assistance can be requested. For minor issues, you may continue to the next aid station, but please let someone know you may need care.
If you see someone who may need help, check on them first—they may just be resting. If medical assistance is needed, call the medical phone number on the bib and be ready to provide:
- Bib number
- A phone number that will remain with the patient
- Location and Mile marker
- What is wrong
- Description of the person
Response times may be longer on trail or remote areas. If you can safely reach an aid station, that is always the best option.
OUR MEDICAL PERSONNEL ARE ON STANDBY FOR THIS RACE AND WILL RESPOND FASTER THAN LOCAL FIRE & PD. DO NOT CALL 911
Due to the remote desert setting, Bryce Canyon Ultras is not a spectator-friendly event, as the course is designed to immerse runners in solitude and scenery. The start/finish line staging area will be the only location at the event this year where spectators will be allowed. Only pacers and crew will be allowed at aid stations. We ask all friends and family to respect this rule. Failure to comply with this will jeopardize the future of this event with the Forest Service. So we kindly ask for your cooperation.
We are looking for a team of volunteers to help on race weekend in many different aspects of the race. We have the following needs at this year’s event:
- Aid Station Volunteers – Show up on race day and assist runners with their food, hydration and gear needs. Help identify race drop bags for runners passing through and provide that all important encouragement and excitement.
- Course Sweep – On race day we will need 2-3 runners per section of trail to run behind the last runner and clear the trail of any litter and course markings.
- LIVE Stream Media – Help film the action on race day and become part of the Steep Life Media Team.
Volunteer Perks
Depending on the level of involvement volunteers will receive varying amounts of Aravaipa Running race credits that can be used at any future race. Volunteers will also receive either a race shirt or other piece of Aravaipa Running Merchandise. Finally, you’ll be a part of one of the most exciting new trail races in Arizona!
Sign-up
Please use the iVolunteer sign-up link below to reserve your volunteer slot and provide contact information so we can reach you with important details prior to race day! Thank you and see you in February!
Required gear
- Headlamp
- Hydration system
- Offline-accessible course map device
- Proper bib placement (front of body, visible)
- Sun protection
- Buff/bandana
- Personal nutrition
- Layers as temperatures shift
- Trail running shoes
- Gaiters

We recognize the environmental impact of an event this size and are committed to reducing it. Aravaipa will provide recycling and Terracycle bins at aid stations and host a cupless race.
What does CUPLESS mean? Aid stations will not provide paper cups for cold drinks—runners must carry their own bottle, cup, or hydration system to refill along the way. Hot cups will be available for coffee, broth, and soup. Please plan ahead and help us keep the race cup-free.
Expect cold temperatures on race morning, likely dipping into the 40s. Dress in warm layers before your start. If you need to shed layers, place them in a warm-up bag at the start, and we’ll shuttle it to the finish for you. Check the forecast before race day— it’s not uncommon to experience cold mornings, afternoon heat, and even the occasional thunderstorm or snow at this time of year. Be prepared for all conditions.
Unless otherwise stated, we will provide a 75% race credit on Ultrasignup towards a future Aravaipa Running event if notified in writing to [email protected] 30 days out from the event. If notified 5 days prior to the event, a 50% race credit may be provided in case of injury or family emergency. No race credit will be issued within 4 days of the event or after the event. Registered individuals who become pregnant are eligible to receive 100% race credit and will be granted two years to use the credit before expiration.
Credits will be good for one year from date of issuance and can only be used once. If you withdraw from an event for which credits were used, you will not be reissued those credits. This reissuance policy also includes credits earned and used by volunteering. No cash refunds or transfers to another participant or event will be issued under any circumstance. No selling of entries is permitted. No refunds or credits will be provided for dropping down in race distance.
Dropping From The Race
If you decide to drop, you must do so at an aid station and inform the aid station captain. They will record your bib number and confirm your withdrawal from the race.
DO NOT WALK OFF COURSE!
Please note that due to the remote nature of this race, transportation back to the finish line is not guaranteed. If you drop at a remote aid station, you may need to wait until the station closes to get a ride.
