We will have a fully stocked aid station throughout the event with water, electrolyte drinks, and food. Volunteers can prepare food upon request and assist runners in every reasonable way.

Runners will be assigned a 10x10 canopy in pairs of two and will have two tables and chairs to share. One table is for hydration, the other table is nutrition/gear. There is ample space behind these tables on the track to set up your own tables and chairs, blankets, or tents.

Headphones: Headphones are allowed, only using an MP3 player for music when attempting a record. If using a cell phone, no communication is allowed and would potentially make a record null if ruled by officials. It is important to keep your phone on airplane mode for the duration of your race if using for music (Rule 144.3b).

Pacing: Note- this rule was updated in 2024 to allow pacing at Desert Solstice, regardless of the lap for each registered athlete in the race. “Where ultramarathon events include multiple distances running concurrently on the same loop course and/or a large number of laps, this allowance also applies to those athletes running different distances and/or are on different laps. (Rule 144.4K)

Shoes: Shoes must follow the guidelines set forth by World Athletics. You can find the list of approved shoes here. Ultra distance events fall under the ‘Road’ (40mm max, one carbon plate max) category. Shoes in the developmental state are not allowed at this time.

Runners meeting one of the listed qualifying standards may apply for acceptance into Desert Solstice.  The entry fee applies to all runners regardless of qualification time, and all runners are eligible to earn prize money for their performances as listed below.  Runners may request acceptance at other race lengths (e.g. 100k, 12 Hour) for comparable performances.

Runners who have met the “A” Standard can gain entry at any point until the race reaches the 30 person max capacity. Runners who meet the “B” Standard may be considered on a case-by-case basis for auto entry or placed on a wait-list. Spots for “B” standard applicants will be awarded in performance-order based on availability 1-week after USATF 24 Hour National Championship.

Qualifying marks must be recent – no older than December 2022. The 2025 Desert Solstice will not be making adjustments to qualification standards based on age group performances.
