To celebrate on of the most prestigious 100K footraces in the world, we're bringing a little piece of that desert gold to you! Inspired by the iconic in-person event, the Black Canyon Virtual Experience is your chance to rack up miles, get some course intel, and to simply immerse yourself in the Black Canyon Ultras experience from afar. Our virtual experience will be 4-weeks long as we build up to the in-person event, where runners from around the world will experience these same landscapes in real life. But the fun doesn't stop at just the miles!

Each week during the event, runners will be guided on their journey through the Black Canyon 100K course by receiving a weekly email detailing sections of the course in roughly 15-20 mile sections. In addition, there will be weekly contests to win prizes (see more on that below) These check-ins will include photos from the race course, and much more to give you a fully immersive experience from wherever you are in the world.

A Journey Unlike Any Other

The Black Canyon Virtual Experience is a fully immersive virtual event designed to take runners on the journey of one of the most illustrious 100Ks in the United States, the Black Canyon 100K. Join us on this 4-week journey as we take you along one of the most scenic trails in Arizona. Throughout the adventure you will learn about the geographic history and cultural significance of the Black Canyon Trail.

Along the journey runners will get to learn about the diverse landscape and history that is experienced along the Black Canyon Trail. You will virtually begin on the Mayer High School track in Mayer, AZ and journey south along the foothills of the Bradshaw Mountains, an area steeped in gold mining lore, through the I-17 corridor.

Throughout the course of this journey, runners will experience both the rich mining history and cattle farming history of the area all while being treated to beautiful views of the many mountain ranges Arizona has to offer. Eventually, the journey will come to an end at the southern terminus of the Black Canyon Trail, the Emery Henderson Trailhead just outside of Phoenix.

Unlock Digital Badges

As your virtual journey along the iconic Black Canyon course continues, you will unlock unique digital badges at key mile markers. These digital badges will help share the story and history of the Black Canyon event, leading to a fully immersive virtual experience.

Win Prizes Every Week

Be sure to tune in each week to our @BlackCanyonUltras Instagram account where we will be hosting weekly challenges for amazing prizes from a Aravaipa Running, Squirrels Nut Butter, Gu and more. These challenges will be announced in our weekly runner email, send out every Sunday night as we guide you through the course. If you miss the email, these contests can also be found on our @BlackCanyonUltras Instagram account every week.

In addition to these weekly challenges, we will be raffling off some additional prizes every week from Aravaipa Running and Aravaipa Virtual. To enter each weekly raffle, participants must post their weekly mileage total under that week's contest post on our @BlackCanyonUltras Instagram page. All runners who have completed at least 15 miles during the week will be entered into a drawing for some sweet prizes. Winners will be announced each week on social!

Want to run further then just the 100K course over the 4 weeks? We have just the thing for you! The male and female with the most miles run over the course of the 4-week event will receive $100 in UltraSignup race credit (good for any Aravaipa Running race).

Black Canyon Course Map Wall Art

Commemorate your virtual experience and 62-plus miles of incredible effort with this limited edition wall art. Inspired by the iconic Black Canyon 100K route, and hand-crafted by Aravaipa Artworx, this 3-D wooden plaque pays homage to the diverse Arizona landscape that you traversed from afar. Laser-etched details of the iconic geography and classic landscapes are highlighted on the course map, which might just motivate you to come run the Black Canyon 100K (or 60K) in person in the future.

Participant Swag Bag

All participants in the Black Canyon Virtual Experience this summer will receive a Black Canyon Virtual Experience race packet via mail. Runners will receive a long-sleeve premium 1/4 zip, a Black Canyon Virtual die cut sticker, and a handcrafted wooden commemorative coin + holder designed by Aravaipa Artworx. In addition to the race pack, plenty of premium upgrades will be available for purchase including a Premium Award (designed by Aravaipa Artworx), a Black Canyon race course wall art, and a number of other amazing swag items! Registration includes domestic shipping fees. Additional fees and time for international shipping. Packets will ship starting January 31st.
