What is your most memorable race experience?
I would say my first 100 miler at the Douglas Women’s 100. It started with diarrhea at mile 8 and vomiting at mile 12 and lasted all but the last 20 miles of the race. I literally had to stop and use the bathroom every mile and a half and by mile 60 I was a wreck. However, it was my first 100 miler and I was determined to finish. I remember crying at mile 81 because I didn’t know how it would make it 19 more miles, but I did finish and even managed to run a few steps towards the end. That race taught me more about myself than all of my other races combined. I learned I was mentally and physically tougher than I ever thought I was
What is your favorite place to train?
I love training in Sedona, AZ. The trails are so beautiful that it makes any run seem short
What is your favorite snack during a race?
Easy, PB&J and coke! With an occassional chocowalla odwalla bar
If you listen to music during your run, what do you listen to?
I listen to mostly pop and rock with some 80′s and 90′s music thrown in. It’s hard not to get into the running groove with Lady Gaga or Rihanna blasting in your ears
When you aren’t running, what do you do with your spare time?
I’m a physician, so most of my spare time is spent working. However, I also love to travel and spent 2 weeks in Germany this year visiting friends and touring around
What inspires you to go the ultra distance?
I love challenging myself and ultrarunning provides a perfect venue to do just that. There will always be another course to conquer, another mountain to climb, another race to do, times to improve, new distances to run… The possibilities are endless.
What is your favorite book?
Timeline by Michael Crighton
Do you have any pets?
have 2 dogs; a border collie/golden retriever mix named Ativan and a German shepherd named Librium (Ati and Libby for short).
Any other sponsors?
None at the moment
What past performances are you most proud of?
As I mentioned before, my first 100 miler was memorable for many reasons, but I also came in first and have the record for that race (as far as I know). My first 50k was the Labor of Love in NV which I also won and set a course record (again still stands as far as I know). My first 50 miler was a race called Iron Horse in Florida, which I won that year. The JJ100 last year in 2010 was a big race for me because I was 3 months post op from knee surgery and I literally had to go from 0 to 100 miles in 3 months. I managed 5th with a PR of over 4 hours from my first 100 miler. This year I hope to come back even stronger! This year I haven’t raced much, but I ran the “50k” in Polacca and came in first, then just did a 50 miler called Deadman’s Peak in New Mexico and came in first. My next race is the JJ100.
