Today, November 13th, 2023, we are delighted to announce the launch of the World Trail Majors – a diverse, respectful, sustainable and independent approach to trail and ultra- racing. Bringing together some of the best races and race organisers in the world, with the aim of providing an alternative to global racing with local knowledge and community at its heart.
“Peaks Week” is our way of celebrating the Golden Trail World Series coming to Flagstaff Sky Peaks. Kicking off on Monday, September 19th we’ll be starting the week with a Social Sharing Contest, so keep an eye on @FlagstaffSkyPeaks on Instagram. Participants are encouraged to share a photo of their favorite peak for their chance to win prizes. Winners will be selected at random. Next, we’ll be hosting a Virtual Trivia Night the following day on Tuesday, the 20th so you can join in the fun from anywhere! I often walk away from conversations with Scout deeply moved by his integrity of character. Over the last 2.5 years he has provided me and all of us at Aravaipa Running with many other takeaways: mostly lessons in dedication, hard work, integrity, passion and following your heart. Scout brought his innumerable strengths to the Aravaipa Race Directing team and while he will be leaving the team on Friday, he is leaving it significantly better than he found it. Scout’s continued impact can be found in our transition to reusable cups, composting at the warehouse, and better recycling company-wide both at events and behind the scenes. When we decided to create a virtual race event in response to our core business (large scale trail running events) shutting down indefinitly due to the COVID-19 situation we wanted a name that would draw us closer together as a global community of trail runners. Something that would inspire others, but also ourselves. This story has two parts. A long and a short. I will start with the short as it has important information regarding this year’s Silverton Steep Camp (formerly known as the Silverton 1000 Multi-Day Challenge). Cancellation of 2019 Steep Camp Silverton Due to increasing costs with renting the venue at the Kendall Mountain Recreation Area which is owned by the Town of Silverton we have had to make the tough decision to not hold this event in 2019. We hope to find a way forward to again hold Steep Camp in 2020 but just cannot do so at the current revised rates. As you will read below in the long version, this event is very …
10 Day race, anyone? What?! Seriously. If there’s one thing you can say about Aravaipa Running – we sure don’t do things half-way. Yes, we are adding a 10-day to Across the Years for the 2019-2020 race but that’s not all. Our brainstorming session got out of hand and instead of relegating ourselves to “only” adding an additional 4 days, we got creative. Here’s what’s going down this December 28 – January 7th Our “typical” 6-day race and all its accompaniments (24-hour, 48-hour, and 72-hour) will be business as usual, taking place December 28 – January 3rd. We are so excited to introduce you to the 2019 Aravaipa Racing Team! As with the 2018 season, we will be partnering with rabbit Apparel to outfit our team in style on the trails! In 2018 our racing team set multitudes of course records, swept the podium (Zane Grey 50 mile – women), earned a Golden Ticket, placed top American woman at OCC in the UTMB series (7th), placed top 10 at Western States (8th), earned a current spot on the USA 24 Hour team to represent at the World 24 Hour Championships, represented at the World 100KM championships, and more. It’s not a “program”- well, it is – but it’s more than that. The Aravaipa Women’s Ultra Training Program is a community of women who for the last year have come together to train, build friendships, and explore more of their potential through ultra-running. The past 5 days have been amazing and I can’t quite get over how both iterations of the training cycles have brought together such amazing people. We spent 5 days together (after 4 months of training) and if I can speak for the group, enjoyed every minute of it. Wow, it’s already November. The evenings are getting dark early and mornings here in Phoenix have started to become (almost) chilly. That means one thing for us here at Aravaipa: we are just wrapping up the Javelina Jundred . It’s hard to believe that this was my 9th year as Race Director of this amazing event which has grown into the 2nd largest 100 mile foot race in North America. I agreed to take over the race back in 2007 at the ripe age of 22, the same year I graduated college and was embarking on my first “real job” at a local accounting firm.
